About
I lead data organizations, and I measure success by business outcomes, not activity.
For the last 15 years I’ve done that inside companies: Goldman Sachs, TelevisaUnivision, AXS. Since summer 2026 I do it as an independent advisor, for companies that need senior data and AI leadership without hiring a big firm or waiting 2 quarters to fill an executive seat.
The operating thesis
A data organization is a cross-cutting enabling team. It serves the whole business, and that stays true under any operating model: centralized, federated, embedded, or hub-and-spoke.
I run that org as a supply chain. Demand comes from many stakeholder groups with competing wants, and the first job is reconciling those against clear business goals. Supply is real, finite capacity, and the second job is managing roadmaps and commitments to fit it. The third job is disciplined execution against the agreed plan.
The result is a data function that produces predictable, high-value output instead of reacting to whoever asks loudest. I’ve built that function 3 times, at 3 very different companies, and it’s the core of what I bring to yours.
The record
AXS (2025 to 2026), SVP Data. Founded the data function from zero, reporting to the CPO. Inherited an estate with no CI/CD, no lower environments, blended dev and prod data, and plaintext PII. In under a year: a 30-50 person org (roughly 70% net new hires, including 2 VPs), 4 lifecycle environments with CI/CD and Terraform, RBAC, a full PII inventory, privacy operationalized across a 9-jurisdiction consent matrix, and a multi-region target architecture adopted as the company roadmap.
TelevisaUnivision (2021 to 2025), VP Data Engineering and Martech. One role covering data engineering, analytics, martech, and cloud cost. Consolidated the platform on GCP with BigQuery at the center. Cut GCP spend by over $1MM a year and led a migration off LiveRamp worth $8MM+ a year. Built the cost-attribution and chargeback model behind those numbers. Engineering throughput rose about 35% by year two on the same headcount.
Marcus by Goldman Sachs (2017 to 2021). Five years leading data broadly for the consumer bank: strategy, platform, governance, analytics, and data product, across savings, lending, and Apple Card. Grew the data org from about 6 people to about 30 across 5 teams. Stood up the initial AWS and Snowflake data infrastructure for the card business and ran governance to a regulated bank’s standard: lineage, contracts, quality SLAs, daily reconciliation.
Before that: a founder. Co-founded 3 companies, all acquired, always running technology and product: the data, analytics, BI, and martech, and the models underneath them. TastemakerX, where I was CTO and CPO, acquired by Rdio (where I then ran marketing technology and growth through the Pandora acquisition). Sooloos, acquired by Meridian Audio, with 2 patents to my name. RedStapler, acquired by Tenthwave. A CMO year at Architizer in between.
How I work
Directly. There’s no bench behind me and no account manager between us. When we work together, the person on the call is the person doing the work.
I specialize in Google Cloud, BigQuery above all, because it’s where I’ve spent the deepest years of platform work and where I can move fastest for you. The operating discipline transfers to any stack.
